Get Ready To Be A Happy Camper – Reservation Dates for Alberta Campgrounds Are Here

Fresh air all around, birds chirping as your alarm clock, a gigantic mountain view as far as the eye can see, refreshing lakes to jump and dip your toes in – and a chance to disconnect from the concrete jungle? Yes, please!

If you’re planning a camping trip this summer, get ready. Camping reservations for frontcountry and backcountry National Park sites across Alberta and the Rockies are opening!

Here are the dates and times you can get your favourite spot or try a new one:

Kootenay National Park:

Front country campground reservations open Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 8 a.m., for Redstreak, Marble Canyon, and McLeod Meadows.

Yoho National Park:

Front country sites including Takakkaw Falls, open Monday, Jan. 26, at 8 a.m.

Waterton Lakes National Park:

Camping reservations for frontcountry and backcountry sites in the park open Wednesday, January 21 at 8 a.m.

Banff National Park:

Front country camping reservations in Banff start Friday, Jan. 23, at 8 a.m., with options including Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court, Tunnel Mountain Village I and II, Lake Louise (hard-sided and soft-sided sites), Protection Mountain, Johnston Canyon, Two Jack Lakeside, Two Jack Main, Rampart Creek, and Silverhorn Creek.

Backcountry camping reservations start Monday, Jan. 26, at 8 a.m.

Lake O’Hara:

For overnight stays reservations will be available Thursday, Jan. 22, at 8 a.m.

Day-use bus access to Lake O’Hara will be distributed via a random lottery, with applications accepted from March 2 to March 23.

Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site:

Heritage Camping at Rocky Mountain House Campground reservations open Wednesday, January 21 at 8 a.m.

Jasper National Park:

Frontcountry camping reservations start Tuesday, January 27 at 8 a.m.

Backcountry camping reservations start Wednesday, January 28 at 8 a.m.

Elk Island National Park: 

Astotin Lake and Oster Lake Backcountry Wednesday, January 21  at 8 a.m.

Wood Buffalo National Park

Pine Lake reservations open on Wednesday, January 21 at 8 a.m.

Alberta Provincial Parks Reservations

Alberta Parks uses a rolling booking window rather than one fixed “opening day”:

  • Individual campsites & backcountry camping are available up to 90 days in advance of your planned arrival dates.
  • Comfort camping & group camping areas are available up to 180 days in advance.
  • The reservation window updates daily at 9:00 a.m. MT and you can book as soon as your arrival date falls within the window.
  • Most park seasons run mid-May through end of September, though exact dates vary by park.
