WestJet to End Lethbridge and Medicine Hat Flights to Calgary

Travellers in southern Alberta will soon have fewer flight options to reach the province’s largest city.

WestJet has announced it will discontinue its year-round, non-stop service between Lethbridge and Calgary, as well as Medicine Hat and Calgary.

The final day of service on both routes will be June 24, 2026.

The announcement comes as Lethbridge City Council was already scheduled to discuss potential airport incentives at its Tuesday afternoon meeting on Feb. 24.

In a statement, the airline said the decision was not made lightly.

“The decision to end air service is never taken lightly, and we understand this is disappointing news for the two communities and apologize for the impact this may have,” the statement reads. “The WestJet Group has served these routes for several years, and despite efforts to support viability, demand for the services has been insufficient.”

Passengers with bookings for June 25 or later will be contacted with information about refund options.

Currently, no other commercial airlines operate out of the Lethbridge Airport, leaving travellers in the region with limited options for direct air service.

In a statement, the City of Lethbridge said council plans to expand those discussions in light of the news.

“We will provide an update to the community once Council has had the opportunity to discuss and provide direction,” the statement reads.

The City previously announced on July 10, 2025, that it was exploring options to expand service at the Lethbridge Airport.
