The Lethbridge Police provide tips during Fraud Prevention Month.

March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the Lethbridge Police are offering up tips on how to stay safe against fraudsters and scammers.

A/Sgt Stephanie Law with the Lethbridge Police explains more about Fraud Prevention Month.

As part of this year’s Fraud Prevention Month, the Lethbridge Police highlighted the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in frauds and scams.

According to A/Sgt Law, AI is being used in a few different ways.

AI is also being used to create Deep Fake videos and images, and A/Sgt Law says the scammers often used videos of famous people.

On top of that, A/Sgt Law says people are using AI to create phishing emails, text messages, and websites in the hopes of tricking people.

While the Lethbridge Police are warning about AI being used for scams, A/Sgt Law says they see different types of scams come in waves.

A/Sgt Law adds that during tax season, they see more CRA related scams.

If you believe you could be targeted by scammers, A/Sgt Law suggests people slow down and think about what is being said.

For those who have been a victim of a scam and are out money or personal belongings, A/Sgt Law says to contact the police.

For those who are victims, but haven’t given any money, contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre.

The Lethbridge Police are hosting Fraud Prevention events, which can be found here.
