Despite recent snowfall, there is plenty to do in Southern Alberta this weekend

The recent snowfall isn’t slowing down the activities in Southern Alberta this weekend.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening in Southern Alberta over the weekend:

 

Friday, March 13

As part of this week’s Nature Fridays event at the Environmental Education Centre in Okotoks, people will be able to learn about rivers. March 14 is International Day of Action for Rivers, and the Town of Okotoks is getting started a day early. At this event, people will learn about water conservation. This event run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Tsuut’ina Nation, the Tsuut’ina Health and Wellness Fair will be happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Down in Lethbridge, there is Nature Play Pop Up – with Lethbridge Plays from 1 to 5 p.m. At this event, there will be free outdoor activities for the whole family at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre.

Also from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre in Lethbridge, there is the Spring Nature Fest.  As part of this event, there will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, which include scavenger hunts, building challenges, games, and more. This is free for people to attend.

At the McMan Family Resource Network in Okotoks, there is the Upstart Art event from 2 to 4 p.m., which helps people to play, create, and explore while learning simple art skills. It’s free to attend and snacks are provided.

At the Viking Rentals Centre in Okotoks, the Okotoks Oilers will be taking on the Brooks Bandits, with puck drop happening at 7:05 p.m.

At the Okotoks Art Gallery, there are two art exhibits that people will be able to enjoy for free.

One is Field Studies by Deanne Underwood, which reflects the artists lifelong relationship with the prairie landscape.

The other exhibit is The Promise by Lanhee Cho, which explores the subtle power of the cycles of life.

In High River, the Highwood Centre will be filled with fun as part of the Loose Moose Improv Theatre Dessert Night. As part of the night, there will be drinks, dessert, and unlimited laughter as people enjoy rapid-fire improvisation. Show starts at 6:30 p.m.

At the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in Medicine Hat, people will be able to enjoy The Spongebob Musical Youth Edition. St. Mary’s School is bringing this musical to life, and is an all ages show packed with friendship and fun. Show starts at 7 p.m. This musical will also be performed on Saturday night.

At the VisitLethbridge.com Arena in Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Hurricanes will be taking on the Medicine Hat tigers, with puck drop happening at 7 p.m.

At the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat, people will be able to learn how to Powwow. At this event, people will be able to learn traditional steps, experience the music, and connect with a rich cultural heritage that has been celebrated for centuries. This starts at 7:30 p.m.

 

Saturday, March 14

At the Viking Rentals Centre in Okotoks, the Town of Okotoks, the Town of High River, and the Town of Diamond Valley have joined forces to host the Foothills Repair Café from noon to 4 p.m. Through the Repair Café, people are able to bring items, such as electronics, small appliances, and toys to be repaired.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will be taking on the team from Lethbridge at CO-OP Place in Medicine Hat. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

 

Sunday, March 15

At the Viking Rentals Centre in Okotoks, the Okotoks Oilers will be taking on the Trail Smoke Eaters, with puck drop happening at 4:20 p.m.

In Diamond Valley, there will be an Ice Carnival, which will showcase all of their skaters from 1 to 3 p.m.

As a gesture of Truth and Reconciliation in Lethbridge, an Oscar-nominated documentary called Sugarcane will be shown at the Lethbridge Public Library. This film documents an investigation into a residential school in Williams Lake, B.C. The documentary begins at 1 p.m.
