With winter winding down, there is plenty to do in Southern Alberta this weekend

Another warm, fun filled weekend is in store for southern Alberta.

Let’s check out what’s happening in southern Alberta this weekend:

 

Friday, March 20:

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bullhead Hall in Tsuut’ina, there is a Community Market. At this market, there will be crafts, art, supplies, and more.

As part of this week’s Nature Fridays event, people will learn about Metamorphosis from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre in Okotoks. At this event, people will be celebrating the Spring Equinox and the changing of seasons.

In High River, The Rehearsal: A Southern Alberta Wedding Fair & Market will be at the Highwood Centre. This event is for those planning a wedding and want to speak with venues, caterers, florists, and more. This runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the McMan Family Resource Network in Okotoks, there is an Art From the Heart event from 2 to 3:30 p.m. As part of this event, people will use their creativity to explore feelings and express yourself through art activities.

It’s Kids Night Out in Medicine Hat. From 4 to 8 p.m., kids aged 5 to 8 are in for in for fun and play. This will happen at the Big Marble Go Centre.

Inclusion Foothills presents “Tunes for Inclusion”, which is a benefit concert on March 20th in Okotoks. This all-ages show will feature the Lyndsay Butler, Cody Hall, and Chase Morgan. As part of this night, people will be able to enjoy music, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle to raise funds to provide advocacy support for local families. This event will take place from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m. at the Old Church Theatre.

From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat, people will Learn to Powwow. At this event, people will be able to learn traditional steps, experience the music, and connect with a rich cultural heritage that has been celebrated for centuries. This starts at 7:30 p.m.

At the Okotoks Art Gallery, there are two art exhibits that people will be able to enjoy for free.

One is Field Studies by Deanne Underwood, which reflects the artists lifelong relationship with the prairie landscape.

The other exhibit is The Promise by Lanhee Cho, which explores the subtle power of the cycles of life.

This is the last weekend these exhibits will be on display, as they are being taken down after March 27.

The Okotoks Oilers will be at the Centennial Regional Arena to take on the Brooks Bandits. Puck drop is happening at 7 p.m.

The Edmonton Oil Kings will be at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

At the Southminster United Church in Lethbridge, people will be able to enjoy Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is part of the Lethbridge Symphony Series V. There are also two performances on Saturday.

 

Saturday, March 21:

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Okotoks Art Gallery, there is Adult Pysanka Egg Decorating. This is a hands-on workshop that uses a mix of wax, dye, and live flame to create unique pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs). This is for people aged 15 and older, and costs $25 to attend.

In Lethbridge, there is a Phytogram and Sustainable Photo Development Workshop. As part of this workshop, people will learn about making phytograms, which is a camera-less photography technique that uses the natural chemistry of plants to imprint directly onto photographic paper. This event costs $10 for members and $15 for non members.

Also at the Okotoks Art Gallery, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., there is a Family Pysanka Egg Decorating event. Through this event, families will learn how to make pysanka. This event costs $25.

The 2nd Annual Outreach Round Dance will be happening from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Central United Church. There will be a pipe ceremony, a feast, a giveaway, and more.

For those aged 13 and older who wish to learn macrame, there is an event for you in Okotoks. As part of the Eclectic Macrame event at the Okotoks Public Library, people will get to learn about macrame from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will be taking on the Red Deer Rebels at CO-OP PLACE, with puck dropping at 7 p.m.

The Okotoks Oilers will be at the Eagle Builders Centre to take on the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Puck drop is at 6 p.m.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will make a trip to the Scotiabank Saddledome to take on the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is at 6 p.m.

 

Sunday, March 22:

At the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71 in High River, there is a Veterans Buddy Check In. Starting at 10 a.m., Veterans are able to come by for coffee, doughnuts, and camaraderie.
