Calgary Stampede will host the inaugural First Nations Rodeo & Relay on June 13 at GMC Stadium, bringing Indigenous atheletes from across Canada and the United States to the venue ahead of this year’s festival.

GMC Stadium will roar to life that night at 6:30pm as competitors showcase heart‑pounding rodeo action and lightning-fast relay races.

The event is in partnership with the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR) and supported by Elbow River Camp Tipi Holder advisors from Treaty 7 First Nations.

The event also comes as the Indian National Finals Rodeo marks its 50th anniversary.

The Calgary Stampede says the program features eight rodeo events, five heats of relay racing, cultural performances and a marketplace showcasing Inidgenous vendors.

Joel Cowley, CEO of the Calgary Stampede says,“this event will be a powerful celebration of Indigenous athleticism, horsemanship and culture.”

Competitors are expected to travel from across North America.

Tickets go on sale March 23 starting at $30, plus applicable taxes and fees.
