People were able to attend the Confluence Historic Site & Parkland today to learn about a Blackfoot Creation story, interconnectedness, and more.

The Human Spiderweb Enactment is a living enactment of the Siksika creation story Ani to Pisi, which is a significant Blackfoot creation story that was passed down to Elder Roy Bear Chief by his late brother Clement.

This story emphasizes the interconnectedness and interrelatedness of society, much like how a spiderweb is intricately entwined.

Elder Roy Bear Chief from Siksika Nation explains what took place at the Confluence.

Bear Chief adds that he was granted to use the Spiderweb by his brother.

Through this Spiderweb activity, people joined together in circles to help emphasize society’s interconnectedness.

Bear Chief adds that he hopes the people in attendance learned that everybody is equal.

This is the fourth year that Elder Roy Bear Chief has been participating and hosting this Spiderweb.

One of the attendees, John Nishimura, says this event was important.

Nishimura says he would attend similar events to this in the future.
