The new Blackfoot Crossing Historical park will serve as the spot for the 4th annual Lead By Example Powwow taking place June 6th and 7th for the first time in it’s history.

The goal? Helping to challenge two communities to work together, overcome their differences and have difficult conversations. All while deepening the relationship between the Town of Strathmore and Siksika Nations and to showcase the enduring strength of Indigenous culture.

The powwow will feature vibrant culture, a celebration of community, song, dance and traditional craft vendors. Admission is free, and people of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to come down and celebrate and learn. CJWE spoke with Melodie Ayoungman-Hunt about why the Lead by Example Powwow is important.

The Lead by Example Powwow came about after the fatal shooting in Strathmore of her son, Kristian, a 24-year-old hockey player. We asked Melodie about the importance of this now annual time of reconciliation.

Melodie also highlighted the importance of the timing and purpose of the upcoming powwow.
