The annual fair returns to Lethbridge on August 22-26 and will be hosted at the Lethbridge and District Exhibition’s new Agrifood Hub and Trade Centre.
“We are committed to making Whoop Up Days a fun, friendly and accessible celebration for the entire community and with the opening of the Agrifood Hub and Trade Centre, which will be used for the programming of this year’s fair, there is no better time to make sure our entire community is welcome to come visit and see the incredible new facility,” said Lethbridge and District CEO Mike Warkentin.
This year, Whoop Up Days will feature the second annual Siksikaitsitapi Princess Pageant and Pow Wow, as well as pro rodeo again. It will kick off with the annual parade on Aug. 22 before the gates to the midway open.
“From a public facing perspective, the most exciting element of it is when you can see and experience and hear and in some cases, taste those cultural elements. And the Pow Wow is truly a visceral experience for everyone involved in it. And the color, the song, the dance, everything about it is just excitement. And so as soon as the drums start, it grabs you emotionally and physically in some ways and actually brings you into the room. But it’s an incredibly exciting element that was missing from our Whoop Up Days programming and we’re very excited to have them back.”
Local vendors will be set up inside the new building throughout the event and there will be food trucks on the grounds.
The Midway will feature an estimated 30 to 40 rides and there will be additional festivities like the SuperDogs, food trucks, and live music.
Live music is also set to return with details on the lineup coming later this summer.
