Signifying the City’s commitment to a sustainable future for Calgarians, The City of Calgary and funding partners are celebrating the kick-off to construction on the expansion of the Calgary Composting Facility.
One of the largest of its kind in Canada, the Calgary Composting Facility, will be increasing its processing capabilities by almost 3 times its current capability with the expansion.
It will introduce new technology which will enable the facility to process even more material while generating and capturing biogas, which will result in lowered greenhouse gas emissions.
The $89.6 million expansion is a collaborative project funded by multiple sources including the City of Calgary’s Green Cart program and federal funding through low interest loans and grants from a number of agencies.
Project construction began in April with a completion date expected in late 2025.
