September is Alberta Culture Days where residents of the province are encouraged to learn and discover the beauty which makes each community special.

On Sept. 7, the City of Airdrie hosted its annual Airdriefest in the downtown core to connect locals and visitors with local organizations that make the city special.

The day started off with a special address from Deputy Mayor Darrell Belyk, a blessing from Tsuut’ina Elder Hal Eagle Tail followed to official kick off the festivities.

Residents and visitors were treated to a First Nation Culture showcase with champion dancers from the Tsuut’ina Nation demonstrating; Men’s Chicken and Traditional, Women’s Jingle and Fancy dances.

Eagletail shared with CJWE how the community of Airdrie has been embracing reconciliation over years at Airdriefest.

With street performers and residents showing their talents, there was a little something for everyone including a special scavenger hunt.

Garry Buzzard the Game Master of the hunt explains how the active is an effective way for residents to engage with the past.

With almost 200 vendors ranging from local artists to community organization the festival offered new residents like Julia and Armand Pascual who just moved to Airdrie from Vancouver a chance to engage with their new home.
