Calgary Public Library (CPL) has opened a location in the Northeast community of Cornerstone but, with a focus on digital first.
The new library dubbed Prototype Skyview is focused on offering a space to connect and learn as the community of Cornerstone grows with approximately thirty thousand people residing in the area.
“We are really excited to test and see how the concepts here will work in our 21 libraries across the city.” says CEO of Calgary Public Library Sarah Meilleur.
“There will be lots of programs focused on technology and really it’s about the space and what the community wants to make of it as well.”
Before Prototype, many of the residence of Cornerstone had to travel fifteen minutes by car drive to the Saddletowne Library to use its services.
Many of the users of the Saddletowne location are the meeting rooms, printing, and access to technology on a multi generational level.
With support from the City of Calgary, the new Prototype location takes those features and puts them into a dedicated space closer to their homes in one of city’s fastest growing communities.
“We should be working on making sure these facilities are here before people move in.” Expressed Ward 5 Councillor Raj Dhaliwal to media at the opening day of the Skyview opening.
“For instance, Redstone, Cityscape, Skyview, Cornerstone only have one Calgary Public Education location which is a K-9 school and the population growth has been exponential. We finally have the Prototype library, but we need a full structure library.”
The new library is part of the City of Calgary’s 2023-2026 Budget and will be located in the community of Redstone Ranch.
Calgary Public Library will be using Skyview as a way to see what services will benefit the community in the new upcoming library.
For more information about the new Prototype library and other programs offered by the CPL can be found on CPL’s website.
