With winter season approaching, and ski hills are getting ready, there is a new place for travelers to stop while they seek adventure in Kananaskis.
On Oct. 19 the ribbon was cut and the Goodstoney Meadows station and convenience store which has been two years in the making.
“This opening is for our younger generation, employment, training” Said Goodstoney Chief Clifford Poucette to CJWE at the grand opening.
“The population of Goodstoney has grown and we only have one grocery store in downtown Mini Thni but, we want to expand further west which will not only serve the population but the tourists who go to K-country.”
The complex of Goodstoney Meadows sitting off the entrance of the Kananaskis Highway and Trans Canada Highway 1 will serve not just the many travelers going into K-country but provide jobs for Goodstoney Nation members.
“When you start something new, it will take time to grow.” Says Goodstoney Council Woman Krista Hunter when asked about jobs being created for the Nation.
“Just like for our people, it will take time for them to grow and get accustomed to this as Goodstoney hasn’t its own gas station in a long time.”
With the gas station and store now open, future plans of the complex includes fast-food restaurants along with a grocery store.
