Winter is here and with it, all the wonderful seasonal events and activities you can imagine.  From ice trail skating to fireside s’more roasting – there is something for everyone!

From 4pm to 9pm, Fridays to Sundays throughout December, the Plaza Palooza winter festival is free and open to all at the Olympic Plaza – live entertainment, music, dancing, ice sculpture demos by local artists, and more are all available during this family friendly event.

There are two official ice trails in Calgary, one in North Glenmore Park and one in Bowness Park.  These are free, public trails where you can enjoy the natural beauty of winter while skating through these parks.  And you can even rent ice bikes to ride on the Bowness ice trail.  Ice bikes are simply bicycles that have been converted to have one less wheel and instead several skates attached to it – they are easy to balance and operate.  Calgary also has nine natural ice rinks, over sixty outdoor rinks, and twelve indoor arenas with rinks.  All outdoor ice activities are weather dependant.  Helmets are required for children and strongly encouraged for all.

Not a fan of ice? Bring your chocolate, marshmallows, gram crackers, and fire-making supplies to any one of Calgary’s twenty-four parks with bookable firepits to heat things up and enjoy the woodsmoke.  Always have a fire safety plan.
