The Indigitech Summit has been meeting for the past four years to highlight and showcase Indigenous leaders on both sides of the border in the world of technology.
This year, the summit will be held on September 24 at Telus Spark in Calgary, Alberta, as part of Calgary’s Truth and Reconciliation week as a way to show how reconciliation is playing an important role in one of the fastest-growing job sectors in Canada.
CEO and founder of Indigitech Destiny, Art Proctor, who has been a part of the industry for the past 15 years, said he started the summit to highlight leaders making an impact as diverse people.
In 2024, the summit welcomed Hayden Godfrey, who is an expert in AI and Data sovereignty, which protects Indigenous intellectual property rather than exploiting it.
The format of the summit includes booths and panels covering a wide range of topics in the tech sector.
Because of the summit’s empowering nature and themes, each year, students from local Treaty 7 nations are invited to attend as a way to inspire the next generation.
This is something Proctor says that while the core of the summit is about highlighting technology, the heart of it is education and mentorship.
More information about the upcoming summit and registration information can be found on the Indigitech Summit’s official website.
