While municipal elections are still a few weeks away, some southern Alberta communities already know who will be leading them, without a single vote being cast.

In several towns, mayoral candidates have been acclaimed, meaning they were the only ones to file nomination papers by the deadline for the position of Mayor.

In Bow Island, Gordon Reynolds will return as mayor, acclaimed for another term. Fort Macleod’s Brent Feyter has also been re-elected by acclamation.

Some communities will see new faces in the mayor’s chair. In Cardston, former councillor Paula Brown will take over as mayor after Maggie Kronen chose not to seek re-election.

Pincher Creek has also acclaimed a new mayor, former councillor Wayne Oliver. In Raymond,  Bryce Coppieters, another former councillor, will assume the top job.

Meanwhile, in Vulcan, the entire town council, including the mayor, has been acclaimed, meaning no election will be held there at all.

The general municipal election will be held Monday, October 20, 2025 for other communities.
