The Alberta government recently announced a $13.5 million investment to reduce discrimination and foster inclusion.

The Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grants help community organizations deliver the projects that fight discrimination, foster inclusion, and attract and retain a diverse and skilled workforce.

“Alberta is home to many vibrant multicultural communities and should always be a safe province for anyone who calls it home,” said the associate minister of Multiculturalism, Muhammad Yaseen, in a media release. “I am proud of the work our government is doing to connect with multicultural communities, stand up against racism and keep Alberta a welcoming place for all.”

Through the Ethnocultural Grant Program, up to $50,000 is available for initiatives that create opportunities which build connections with ethnocultural and Indigenous groups, while upwards of $15,000 will go towards projects that celebrate diversity.

The Anti-Racism Grant Program helps communities combat discrimination and address racism, and through this grant program, upwards of $10,000 will support initiatives that not only educate those living in Alberta, but also support anti-racism work.

Through this program, there will also be upwards of $5,000 going towards projects that raise awareness of racism and its impacts.

Applications for the grant programs are currently open and will remain open until December 19.

These grant programs are open to Alberta-based groups, such as non-profit organizations, multicultural and faith-based groups, First Nations and Métis settlements, post secondary institutions, schools, and school boards.

In 2024-2025, these grant programs provided $5.5 million in funding to almost 200 community groups, which promoted cross-cultural understanding and combating racism.
