The Royal Canadian Legion Branches in Calgary kicked off their annual Poppy Campaign, encouraging residents to wear the iconic red flower in support of veterans throughout November. Volunteers will be out across the city collecting donations that go directly towards programs and services for those who served.

Philp MacAulay, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch one tells CJWE that it’s great seeing people participate in donating, with the proceeds from getting a poppy going towards aiding veterans in need.

MacAulay adds that it’s a hard undertaking as being one of the 10 branches across the city of Calgary taking part in the campaign, highlighting that they raise a million dollars a year in their efforts.

MacAulay says that those who purchase a poppy wear it for remembering a loved one, or someone they now who served in action, or are currently in active duty.
