Tsuut’ina Nation elects new Head Chief and Minor Chiefs

Ellery Starlight has been elected as the Nation’s Head Chief

Tsuut’ina Nation recently elected their Head Chief and Minor Chiefs.

On November 20th, Tsuut’ina Nation hit the polls to determine who their Head Chief and Minor Chiefs will be until 2028.

After receiving 300 votes, Ellery Starlight has been elected as the Nation’s Head Chief, defeating the incumbent chief, Roy Whitney.

In a Facebook post, Starlight stated that he is humbled by everyone’s support, and thanked the previous leadership for their service.

“To our previous leadership, thank you for your service. You gave your lives and took your time away from your families and we appreciate that. I respect each and every one of you because it was a hard journey,” Starlight stated.

Starlight was previously a member of the Tsuut’ina Nation Council and played a major role in establishing the Peacemaker Court in Tsuut’ina Nation in 2000.

There were also 12 minor chiefs elected during this election.

The elected minor chiefs are Tyson Heavenfire, Kendall Jacobs, Hine Crowchild, Waylon Big Plume, Jeanne Crowchild, Paula Big Plume, Kelsey Big Plume, Corrine Eagletail, Zachary Manywounds, Twylla Starlight, LeeRoy Meguinis, and Paul Whitney.
