The weather this weekend in Southern Alberta will be a bit of a mix, there is plenty to do in Southern Alberta.

Let’s take a look:

 

Friday, February 27

At the Okotoks Art Gallery, there are two art exhibits that people will be able to enjoy for free.

One is Field Studies by Deanne Underwood, which reflects the artists lifelong relationship with the prairie landscape.

The other exhibit is The Promise by Lanhee Cho, which explores the subtle power of the cycles of life.

Starting at 10 a.m. at the Environmental Education Centre in Okotoks, people will be able to learn about Polar Bears as part of the Town’s Nature Fridays event. At this event, people will learn about the largest land predator on Earth.

Down in Lethbridge, there is a Come Build with Us event from 1:30 to 3 p.m. At this event, youth will participate in STEM activities.

At the Okotoks Public Library from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., there is a Polymer Clay Creations program. At this event, people will learn how to make clay projects. Registration is required.

In the Town of Diamond Valley, there is afterschool shinny at Scott Seaman Sports Rick from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The Old Church Theatre in Okotoks is hosting a Musical Tribute to Elton John. This Vegas-style show has been selling out venues for over 6 years. Instead of the concert happening at the Old Church Theatre, they are moving the show to the Viking Rentals Event Centre. Doors open at 7, with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.

All weekend at the Medicine Hat Exhibition Pavilion, the Medicine Hat Rock N’ Gem Show will allow people to bring together a dazzling collection of crystals, fossils, gemstones, and more.

For those in the Standoff area, there is a MMIP & Pink Shirt Day event happening at the Standoff Multi-Purpose Building. This is an evening to raise awareness about bullying, promoting kindness, and supporting the families impacted by MMIP. This event starts at 4 p.m.

The Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation’s Bunkhouse Bonanza will be at the Cochrane Ranchhouse on Friday and Saturday. This event will feature Western Music and Cowboy Poetry.

 

Saturday, February 28

At the Okotoks Art Gallery, there are two art exhibits that people will be able to enjoy for free.

This is the last day of the 15th Annual YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, which has many different hot chocolates available all over the Calgary area.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge, guest artist Katie Marie Bruce will guide participants through an exciting printmaking session.

The Old Soul Vintage Market will be taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 409 2 Ave S in Lethbridge. At this market, people will be able to shop for hand-picked vintage finds.

At the Okotoks Public Library, there are the Rebel Revolt Teen Escape Room will be happening all afternoon. As part of this, people will be able to solve puzzles and deciphering clues.

In the City of Medicine Hat, there is an Illustrative Storytelling Workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Gallery. This drawing workshop explores Pudlo Pudlat’s work.

At the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, they are hosting a Crafternoon, where people can come on down and make glow house lanterns from 1 to 4 p.m.

At the Okotoks Alliance Church in Okotoks, the annual Foothills Philharmonic Society Fundraising Concert is taking place, starting at 3 p.m. As part of this fundraising concert, there will be performances from all Foothills Philharmonic Society Ensembles, as well as a silent auction and concessions. This concert it will benefit the Foothills Philharmonic Society.

From 4 to 9 p.m. at the Galt Museum & Archives, there will be a Black History Month Showcase, which celebrates culture, creativity, and community through art, performance, and storytelling.

The Coldest Night of the Year will be happening in Lethbridge from 4 to 7 p.m., which will raise money for Streets Alive Mission’s mission services. This is a family-friendly fundraising walk.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will be hosting the team from Calgary at the Co-op Place in Medicine Hat. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

As part of the Beneath the Arch Concert Series in Diamond Valley,  Lynne Hanson will be performing. Hanson is known for her insightful, poetic lyrics, and high-energy roots performances. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.

Down at the East Longview Hall in Longview, the Mark Parsons Band will be hitting the stage. This will allow people to put on their boots, grab their friends, and head out for a night of rockin’ country fun. Show is at 7 p.m. This is part of the Rock’ N Country Cabaret.

 

Sunday, March 1
