Not only is the official first day of spring approaching, but it is also the first day of hunting season for Spring Snow geese and Ross’s Geese.
Each year, the hunting season for these geese happens from March 15 to June 15.
Because the start of the season is fast approaching, Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement is reminding hunters to review the Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations for valid Wildlife Management Units, required licences, and information on bag limits.
When hunting migratory game birds in Alberta, a provincial game bird permit is required, along with the federal Migratory Game Burd Hunting Permit.
Those who purchased a federal permit for the previous year’s fall hunting season, the permit is still valid and does not expire until the end of June.
Each year, hunters are able to get a combined daily limit of 50 geese, with no possession limit.
