By Daniel Barker-Tremblay Mar 18, 2026 | 12:20 PM

The Annual Spring Film Festival is set to return to the Medicine Hat Public Library on March 28 from 2-4 p.m., presented by What Matters Hatters, featuring local short films and discussions on loneliness, community, and connection.

Michelle Sauve, Health Promotions facilitator with Recovery Alberta, tells CJWE the festival will showcase local Medicine Hat films focused on connection and a sense of belonging within the community.

Sauve says one featured local film, ‘The Story Behind My First Tipi’, highlights Brenda Fraser sharing her culture, building bridges with non-Indigenous audiences, and encouraging questions about Indigenous culture and teachings.

Sauve highlights the harmful effects of social isolation and loneliness , noting that the festival emphasizes the importance of connection within community.
