Aprils Fools Day is Coming Up and Here Are Some Fun and Safe Pranks to Pull!

By Sarah Scott Mar 26, 2026 | 12:06 PM

On Wednesday, April 1, you’re going to want to be keeping your head on a swivel and stay alert… because April Fools is back, baby!

The only prank I pulled was saying it was my birthday (one year) and although I got lots of love – Facebook wouldn’t let me change my birthday date for a month! The joke was on me, I guess.

Well – we want everyone to have a fun, funny and great April Fools Day, so here are some of the rules and expecttions, and yes, even some ideas for pranks.

Key guidelines for April Fools’ Day:

  • Safety First: Never create situations that pose a risk of bodily harm or damage to property.
  • No Emergencies: Do not report fake crimes, fires, or disasters, as this misuses, and can restrict, emergency services.
  • Target Selection: Choose a target who has a good sense of humor and will enjoy the joke.
  • The Noon Rule: Tradition dictates that pranks should stop by 12:00 PM, after which the prankster is considered the fool.
  • No Long-Term Harm: Jokes should not cause lasting embarrassment, destruction of property, or personal distress.
  • Simple & Clever: The best jokes are harmless, creative, and quick.

Here are some fun and safe pranks:

  • Fill a mayonnaise jar with vanilla pudding and casually eat the whole thing with a spoon. You can also do this with house cleaners with Gatorade.
  • Slip something weird or unexpected into a stranger’s grocery cart when they aren’t looking. They’ll find it during the checkout.
  • Add a voice activated sign to the office toaster. Or door. Or toilet handle. Or anything.
  • Put googly eyes on everything in. EVERYTHING.
  • Empty the fridge. COMPLETELY empty the fridge so when your family members open it in the morning it’s a vast hole of emptiness.
  • Replace family photos around your house with photos of strangers or celebrities.
  • Sticky Note Hug. Hug your kid or partner and send them on their day with a note stuck to their back that says “I twirl for applause.” Classic.
  • Stuck Money. Glue a quarter (or loonie or toonie) to the sidewalk outside and watch from a window.
  • Turn Jell-O into juice. Prank the kids at breakfast by swapping out their orange juice for orange Jell-O. They’ll get quite a shock when they go to sip it.
  • Plant a fake $100 bill. Tuck a fake $100 bill in an easy-to-see spot. Just when they think of their good fortune, they’ll pull it out to see the other side laughing at them. You can buy fake bills or print out your own!
  • Confuse your favorite chat buddy. Download a GIF of the anticipatory “typing dots” message indicator and send it to your favorite unsuspecting chat buddy. They’ll think you’re about to send a message all day long!
