A high school student in Cochrane has stepped into a leadership role, which will help shape local policing priorities and bring a new generation’s perspective to community decision-making.
At its first meeting on March 12, the Cochrane Municipal Policing Committee swore in five members, as well as confirming its new leadership.
That included the appointment of Zachary Cristea as Vice Chair for a one-year term.
Cristea is a Grade 12 student with aspirations in law enforcement or business, and his appointment strengthens the Committee’s connection to youth perspectives.
Gary Carty, Cochrane Municipal Policing Committee Chair, explains more about this committee.
According to Carty, one of the Committee’s responsibilities is to assist the RCMP detachment Commander.
So, why have a high school student on this committee?
This is a new committee, and committee meetings are open to the public, which provides residents with opportunities to stay informed and engaged.
