Helping Youth Reclaim Their Roots: How the Napi Friendship Center in Pincher Creek Guides Youth Back to Their Culture

By Benjamin Gerow Apr 15, 2026 | 9:34 AM

The Napi Friendship Association is hosting twice-monthly classes for youth to learn to sing, dance and create in their own culture. The classes have also brought in people to teach the kids hide tanning, regalia creation and more.

CJWE spoke with Mary Fay Small Legs, the Education Collaborator at the Napi Friendship Centre talks about how the program got started and why it’s important.

Mary told CJWE about how the class has evolved through collaborations.

We asked Mary about the end goal with these classes.

The classes happen twice a month, with the next upcoming course on April 27th, and again in early May. You can register at the Napi Friendship Association or on their Facebook page.
