Warm weather and events are on the docket for this weekend

There will be warm weather and plenty of fun happening in Southern Alberta this weekend.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening in Southern Alberta this weekend:

 

Friday, April 17:

The Museum of the Highwood in High River will be open all weekend, and their new exhibit, Inspired To Create: Art of the Highwood is on display, which showcases artwork inspired by the Highwood area.

It’s a swinging weekend in Lethbridge. Swingvolution is returning all weekend in Lethbridge, where there will be workshops, live music, and social dancing.

The Okotoks Art Gallery has a pair of new exhibits.

One of the exhibits is Earthly Delights, by Neil McClelland, which reflects upon the human delight in gardens.

The other exhibit is Ruin & Reclamation: Re-iterated by Beany Dootjes, which repurposes men’s business attire and other textiles into oversized insects.

These exhibits will be on display until June 26.

As part of Nature Fridays in Okotoks, people will learn about bats from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre in Okotoks.

At CO-OP Place in Medicine Hat, the Medicine Hat Tigers are taking on the Calgary Hitmen as part of their playoff run. Puck drop happens at 7 p.m.

In High River, Windmill Theatre Players presents 9 to 5, the Musical. This musical is about three overworked secretaries who plot revenge against their misogynistic boss. Curtain call is 7:30 p.m. this day, but there are performances all weekend.

 

Saturday, April 18:

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Police Point Park in Medicine Hat, there will be an Earth Day Celebration. At this event, there will be a community-wide Litter Blitz, which will help to clean up litter around the community.

At the Multicultural Centre in Lethbridge, there is a Community Event for Newcomers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. As part of this event, it creates a welcoming space that celebrates diversity, connection, and community.

At the Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, there is a Métis Career Fair With First Responders from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will give people a chance to explore career opportunities and learn what life as a first responder is like.

At the Bullhead Community Centre, there will be a Community Market put on by the Tsuut’ina Community Association. This market will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and there will be a number of vendors selling their wares.

At Genesis Place in Airdrie, the Home and Lifestyle Show will be happening all weekend, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, there is an art exhibit called Art Through Response.

At the University of Lethbridge, people will be able to check out the talent and artistry of Fine Arts students, alumni, staff, and faculty. Vibe Fest will happen from 3 to 10 p.m.

Also at the University of Lethbridge, ULethbridge Art Gallery presents Parallels at Hess Gallery. There will be works from Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Buchanan Art Collection and the Ulethbridge Art Collection. This exhibit runs until June 20.

At the Scotiabank Art Gallery in Lethbridge, they are hosting a Meet the Artist Night from 7 to 8:15 p.m. At this event, people will also get to explore breathtaking photography and artifacts.

At CO-OP Place in Medicine Hat, Lee Brice will be hitting the stage for a night of music. Show begins at 7:30 p.m.

 

Sunday, April 19:

There are drop-in activities for everyone to enjoy in Okotoks, which can be found here.

The Calgary Hitmen will take on the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Scotiabank Saddledome, continuing the playoff series. Puck drop is happening at 4 p.m.
