New data from the Calgary Homeless Foundation shows its Extreme Weather Response (EWR) program saw more than 32,300 visits from over 3,200 people between December and March despite Calgary experiencing only 18 days below –20 C this winter.

EWR partners with the city and 20+ organizations to provide winter day spaces offering warmth, rest, meals, clothing, hygiene supplies, showers, laundry, and links to health and housing supports. Year‑round sites include The Mustard Seed, the Distress Centre and Journey Church, with additional seasonal spaces operating from December to March.

This winter alone, EWR facilitated 11,700+ referrals to housing, mental health, addiction, recovery, tax and legal supports. The program also recorded its highest number of unique visitors and shuttle transports to shelters in its history.
