The 23rd annual Underground Calgary Film Fest is set to close on April 26th, marking the end of another run of local filmmakers showcasing their work. CUFF serves as one of the biggest genre film festivals in Western Canada, and drew a healthy crowd in it’s two week run so far.

The closing weekend is still jam packed, Friday has films available to watch from 4:30pm all the way to premiers that kick off at 10pm. Saturday features a collection of films and a featured live script reading at 1pm. Sunday will feature the results of the ongoing “48-hour movie challenge”, where filmmakers were tasked with making a short film in only 48 hours. CJWE had the chance to interview Brendan Tilley, Lead Programmer and Operations Manager for CUFF about the closing weekend.

Brennan talked to CJWE about why this weekend is going to be a little different compared to opening weekend.

Brennan also highlighted the importance of highlighting Indigenous voices at the festival.

CJWE asked about the objective behind a more local focused closing weekend.

Tickets can be purchased online, and showings go down at the Globe Cinema in downtown Calgary.
