A large swath of Alberta can expect snowfall and gusty wind today (April 24).

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for a large part of Alberta, ranging from north of Lac La Biche to the American border in the south and from the Calgary region in the west to the Saskatchewan border in the east.

This Special Weather Statement has been issued due to snowfall and local blowing snow that will create challenging travel conditions.

On top of that, snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are expected.

Also, visibility could be reduced in bands of blowing snow and heavier snowfall, and the snow could suddenly accumulate on the roads.

The gusty winds may also make driving challenging, especially those driving high-profile vehicles.

Because of this, Environment Canada is advising travelers to prepare for rapidly changing or deteriorating travel conditions, and if visibility is reduced, slow down, turn on your headlights, and prepare to stop.
