A little over 100 days remain on the countdown to the kick off of the annual Canadian Special Olympic Games, an event that has been a long time coming for the town of Medicine Hat and it’s small army of volunteers. After a bid to host fell apart during the Covid-19 pandemic, the bid has finally been realized.

The games are a way for the town to promote itself and to increase sport tourism in the area. It’s a large undertaking, swaths of volunteers are working to get things organized, including preparing hotels for athlete stays.

We had an opportunity to speak with Kara Baker, General Manager for the upcoming event about the upcoming 100 day rally for the event.

Kara told CJWE that some of the event organizers are ex-athletes.

Right now, the volunteers and Kara are focused on the upcoming 100 day celebration, an event in town that officially begins the countdown to the games. More info on the event can be found here.
