A brand new, 127,680 square foot multi-sport dome has been approved for just north of the existing Community Sports Stadium, in a move that should expand year-round sport opportunities for students and the community. With aims to be completed in August of 2027, in time for the 2027/28 athletic year, the project is projected to cost around $13.5 million, with backers from the ULSU, University of Lethbridge capital funds, and a $200,000 Community Capital Project grant from the City of Lethbridge.
The contribution from the Students’ Union represents one of the biggest student-led investments in campus recreation ever, at over $1.15 million. The ULSU is also due to present a name for the facility in coming months.
When the facility is complete, it will boast two 9 v 9 sized soccer pitches, four 6 v 6 soccer pitches, complete with FIFA quality turf, two sport courts that can be used for tennis/pickleball/basketball and a multi-lane track for track and field. Parking expansion at the Community Sports Stadium is to be expanded, with an additional field house being constructed and attached to the dome.
