A pair of four-legged officers have joined the Blood Tribe Police Service.

On April 30, the Blood Tribe Police announced the addition of a new Public Safety K9 Unit, which will help strengthen their commitment to public safety, crime prevention, and community services across Kainai Nation.

The new police dogs, named Grizzly and Fergus, and their handler, St. CST. Matt Lapointe, have completed specialized training and are now ready to assist their two-legged partners in a variety of policing duties.

This Public Safety K9 Unit will support the frontline operations by tracking suspects or missing people, helping to locate evidence, conducting searches, and assisting in high-risk situations.

“This addition marks an important step forward in expanding the tools and resources available to the Blood Tribe Police Service while continuing to provide effective and professional policing services to the community,” the Blood Tribe Police Service stated in a release.
