Let ‘Em Rip: Beyblade Battles Return to Calgary

By Benjamin Gerow May 7, 2026 | 9:56 AM

Gen Z and millennials still have ways to feel young, as 90’s babies and up may remember Beyblades. The customizable tops that get fired into a plastic stadium, to see who can outlast the other, took the world by storm in the early 2000’s.

Today’s generation of youth can still feel the rush of “Letting It Rip!”, as the most recent revitalization of the tops has a new pro scene emerging. Led by a couple organizers with a passion for the game, as well as momentum generated by Asia’s youth fully back into the pro Beyblade scene, tournaments are taking place at expo’s and community halls across the city.

CJWE got to speak with Josiah, a co-founder, tournament organizer and head judge for the Calgary based tournaments and asked about how he got into the game and tournament organizing.

We asked Josiah about the surge in the desire to see a Beyblade pro scene.

One of the most unique part of Beyblade tournaments is the accessibility. The tournaments are designed to allow essentially anyone to get in, the game is easy to learn (at first!), doesn’t require a ton of physicality and has a friendly player base, ready to welcome in new players.

Josiah talked to us about the wide range in the age of tournament goers, including a grandfather.

We also asked Josiah about the skill floor, and how intricate the game can get the better you are.

Some information on the next tournament can be found here. Prizes are included for only a 10$ buy-in.
