Beware of fraudulent fishing licence websites
Albertans are being warned about fraudulent websites selling sportfishing licences.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement recently took to Facebook to warn the public about the fraudulent websites, letting people know that AlbertaRELM is the only authorized online platform to buy Alberta sportfishing licences.
According to the Alberta Forestry and Parks, they are aware of the unauthorized website selling fraudulent sportfishing licences, and the RCMP have been made aware.
“These licences do not authorize people to fish legally in Alberta,” the Department of Forestry & Parks stated when asked about the fraudulent website. “The only authorized ways to purchase an Alberta sportfishing licence are through AlbertaRELM.ca, the AlbertaRELM app, or an approved licence issuer. Anglers are advised not to provide payment or personal information to third-party websites as they may risk financial loss or compromised information.”
Approved licence issuers can be found on AlbertaRELM.com
Those who believe they have been defrauded by a fraudulent website should report it to the police.
