There is a Snowfall Warning in effect for a large swath of western Alberta for this weekend.
From Waterton Park in the south to north of Grande Cache in the north, and from Calgary in the east to the B.C. border, is under either a Snowfall Warning or a Special Weather Statement.
Along the foothills and near Jasper National Park, snow will begin this evening (Friday, May 15) or Saturday, with the heaviest snowfall happening on Saturday.
The forecasted snowfall amounts are uncertain, but accumulations of upwards of 20 cm are possible in the higher terrain and along the Trans-Canada Highway west of Calgary.
In the region west of Cochrane, there is a risk of scattered rain showers or flurries today will gradually transition to widespread heavy snow tonight and will continue into Saturday.
As a result, travel will likely become difficult in the region.
The snow is expected to taper off by Sunday morning, but roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, and visibility could be reduced at times.
