A young black bear wandering through downtown Canmore was tranquilized Saturday afternoon.
RCMP say they were called at 2:26 p.m. after the roughly 100‑pound bear was spotted near the Sav‑On‑Foods. According to officers, the bear ended up in a confrontation with a mother elk, who chased it up a tree, possibly because the bear had attacked a calf the night before.
Fish and Wildlife officers responded, sedated the bear, and removed it from the tree. It has since been relocated to an undisclosed area.
