Indigenous Tourism Alberta (ITA) has entered a renewed agreement with Travel Alberta for the next four years. The two organizations entered a formal partnership in 2021, and has been renewed twice more, once in 2023 and now.
The partnership will see an additional $8.2 million invested in more than 200 Indigenous-owned businesses in Alberta. $2.2 million of that will be direct funding and in-kind support this year, plus $2 million annually until 2030.
Indigenous tourism is on it’s way up across Canada, with a 5 year deal being signed between Indigenous Tourism Manitoba and Travel Manitoba, a move that sees the collaborative vs competitive outlook of Indigenous tourism in the country come into play, as the Indigenous tourism boards view the signed deals as great things happening in multiple provinces, with more hopefully in the future.
