Okotokians will have a chance to refresh their wardrobes and sports gear this weekend as the town marks Environment Week with a community clothing and equipment swap. The event encourages people to give gently used items a second life while picking up something new-to-them.
Donations of clean, lightly used clothing and sports accessories can be dropped off at the Eco Centre until Saturday, June 6. The collected items will then be sorted and prepared for the Clothing & Sport Equipment Swap, which runs Sunday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre.
The town is accepting clothing of all sizes, including outerwear, footwear, jewelry, bags, purses, backpacks and belts. Residents can also donate non‑protective sports equipment such as sticks, clubs, bats, racquets, balls, skates, cleats, bikes, gloves and snowboards.
However, the swap will not accept intimate apparel like undergarments, socks or jock straps, and will not take protective sports gear such as helmets or hockey pads. These items are excluded for hygiene and safety.
Any clothing or equipment left over after the event will be donated to support local residents in need, ensuring nothing goes to waste and the community benefits twice, once through the swap and again through charitable distribution.
