Siksika Health Services Celebrated Their Own Elders Week: Kaah’sinooniiks Week

By Benjamin Gerow Jun 19, 2026 | 9:25 AM

Siksika Health has announced a full week dedicated to recognizing Kaah’sinooniiks Week and the work elders out in.

June 3rd kicked off with Opening Ceremonies at the Elders Lodge. The 4th offers an Activity Day, featuring bingo and an elders meet and greet, open to anyone 60+.

Wednesday is the Elders Abuse Awareness event, done in part with Naveena Many Heads – Elder Abuse Caseworker.

The next day was a Kaah’sinooniiks Tea and Gathering, which took place at the Siksika Arbour.

Finally, Friday was the adventure day, where seniors took a field trip to Tsuut’ina and the Grey Eagle Casino. Attendees also got to meet some of the elders on Tsuut’ina Nation.

For the Siksika Elder Services team, the increase in seniors is one they witness every day, and unfortunately, the numbers of fraud and financial abuse against elders continues to rise, which was a main motivator for having a week-long celebration for elders.

In addition, the Elder Services team also helps the elderly with government documents, transportation and a lot more.

We talked to the team about what people can do now that the week has passed, and the answer was simply to stay involved and engaged with the elderly folk in your community.

We spoke with Kory Duck Chief of Siksika Health Services about the elder week plans.

We also asked about the field trips, and how youth got involved.

We asked Larry Waterchief about how and why this event came to be.
