Mount Royal University says it’s investigating a cyber attack that disrupted its systems on Wednesday.

The university says the investigation is still in its early stages and it has not yet determined whether any personal information or other data was accessed or taken.

“When the issue was identified, the university took prompt steps to contain the threat and protect its systems,” the university wrote in a news release. “We have retained external cyber security experts to assist with the response and investigation, and we are following our established incident response protocols.”

According to MRU, the breach disrupted its web services, on-campus internet and telephone service.

MRU remained open on Thursday and students were encouraged to attend their exams as scheduled unless they have been notified otherwise.

Employees were encouraged to work remotely, if possible.
