According to a news release, Tsuut’ina Nation is planning on securing and developing 2,400 acres of land directly north of the Nation, in collaboration with Qualico Communities Calgary.

“Building on the success of past economic initiatives, the Nation is securing long-term economic opportunities by expanding our land base,” said Xakiji Ellery Starlight, Tsuut’ina Nation. “We have an opportunity to bring 2,400 acres of land, north of our reserve, back to our people. Through collaborations built on mutual respect with Qualico and our partners, we will ensure the lasting prosperity, self-determination, and strength of our Nation.”

The Nation also plans to work alongside Aubin Consulting, an engagement and planning firm on the Nation. Aubin will lead community engagement, guide land development, environmental planning, and outreach with regional stakeholders.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the Tsuut’ina Nation, and we are proud to bring our expertise to this historic initiative,” said Aaron Aubin, President of Aubin Consulting. “We look forward to a collaborative process where community voices help guide the vision, ensuring a sustainable development rooted in Tsuut’ina values, traditions, and language for generations to come.”

This initiative is still in the early stages, but over the coming weeks there will be engagement sessions and distribute information packages.

At the same time, outreach will expand to regional neighbors, nearby Indigenous nations, and key stakeholders so their voices can guide the environmental, cultural, and economic direction of the lands.

The deal is 100% privately funded.
