Train Derailment in Southwest Calgary Sends 13 Cars into Priddis Slough

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating a train derailment in southwest Calgary after 13 rail cars left the tracks and plunged into a body of water early Monday morning.

Calgary Police & Fire crews were dispatched to the 17000 block of Sheriff King Street S.W. around 7:50 a.m. following reports of the incident.

Police confirm that 13 cars had fallen into the pond known locally as Priddis Slough.

The derailed cars were carrying lumber, plywood, propane, and argon. While some construction and building materials spilled, officials say no cars ruptured and there are no indications of leaks from the tanker cars.

The crew aboard the train was not injured. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
