Quonset Days began in 2010 as a way to honour the life of Seven Persons farmer Peter Biemans, who passed away from ALS in 2009. After their local ALS Walk was cancelled, Peter’s family created the fundraiser to raise money and awareness for the ALS Society of Alberta. What started as a small community event has grown into a major annual celebration featuring live music, auctions, camping, games and more, raising over $1 million for ALS research and support. The event’s unique name pays tribute to one of Peter’s legendary practical jokes, when he convinced friends that farmers raced quonset huts down irrigation canals before throwing a big party.
