Olds RCMP, in partnership with Calgary Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service, and Circle K, are bringing back Operation Freeze this summer — a unique program that rewards young people for doing the right thing.
Now in its 21st year, Operation Freeze aims to strengthen relationships between youth and law enforcement by celebrating positive behaviour with free Froster coupons redeemable at Circle K stores.
The initiative encourages officers to recognize children and teens who show leadership, kindness, and community spirit.
Examples include kids wearing bicycle helmets, volunteering, helping neighbours, using crosswalks safely, participating in community events, or picking up litter.
S/Sgt. Jamie Day of the Olds RCMP says the program helps change how young people view police officers.
“When most people see police lights, it’s usually not a good day,” Day said. “This gives us a chance to engage with youth in a positive way. We want them to see that we’re human and that we’re here to support them.”
The program has proven effective at breaking down barriers and building trust between young people and police.
By the end of the summer, the Olds RCMP detachment alone expects to distribute hundreds of Froster coupons to deserving kids across the area.
The message is simple: safe, responsible, and community-minded actions deserve to be celebrated.
