According to a posted update from Siksika Land Management, which provided updates on an ongoing road name signage project, Siksika Nation has experienced incidents where road name signs were damaged, removed or tampered with.
According to the post, Siksika Nation is reminding people that tampering with road name signs is to tamper with public infrastructure that belongs to the Nation, and that removing, damaging or tampering with the signs can be considered a serious offence and could result in enforcement action.
If people have concerns regarding the road names, which Siksika Nation says are brought forward with support from Chief and Council, and are supported by community engagement and input, cultural and historical considerations, and guidance from leadership. They also say they are committed to hearing feedback from residents, to help ensure concerns are addressed through proper channels.
Those with questions or concerns are asked to email landreception@siksikanation.com no later than August 4th, as any concerns after that date will have to go through a formal request with a newly formed panel, as per policy.
