The Town of Taber has plans to celebrate their re-opening of the ice surface at the Taber Arena, mere months after an explosion in December forced a closure.
The Verset Hockey Camp that begins August 1st is going to be the first official event on the renovated surface, but the celebration planned for July 31st gives the public a chance to be first on the ice.
The event has a ribbon cutting ceremony, and inductions of Dr. Gerald Beckie and Joe Orban into the arenas new “Wall of Fame”.
Town officials said staff and local contractors spent the past several months repairing the arena after the explosion, with crews working toward an internal goal of reopening the large ice surface by Aug. 1.
We got to speak with CAO Derrin Thibault about the re-opening, how it went, and the excitement level around the town.
