The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce is giving a big thumbs‑up to the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, saying the event not only put the region in the spotlight but also pumped about $12 million into the local economy.
Around 1,700 athletes, coaches, and staff came from all over the country for the weeklong competition, and plenty of families, fans, and supporters made the trip too.
According to the Chamber, all those visitors meant busy hotels, packed restaurants, extra shopping, more rides, and plenty of action for local attractions and businesses across the city.
The Chamber also said more 1,500 volunteers came down to help stage the Games, and allowed visitors a better experience.
They also said the Games proved the region can pull off a major national event, all while celebrating sport, inclusion, and the community spirit that makes this place special.
