As of August 18, no wildfires were burning in Alberta’s Forest Protection Area — the first time the province has recorded a completely fire-free day in August in at least a decade.
The milestone arrives during Alberta’s wettest summer on record. Persistent damp conditions have not only kept fire activity at historic lows but have also freed up firefighters and wildfire support staff to deploy to other regions where they are needed most.
Officials stress that the work is far from over.
Crews continue to monitor conditions closely and stand ready to respond should warmer, drier weather spark new fires.
Albertans are encouraged to stay up to date by checking the Alberta Wildfire dashboard for the latest information on any active wildfires across the province.
