Moments Fest is an indigenous led music festival hosted on the land of Siksika Nation. This year is going to be bigger and better than ever as they are celebrating their 10 year anniversary September 4-6th! Moments Fest is an all ages music festival by the way! So the whole family can go!
Launched in 2014, Moments Fest Music, Arts and Culture started as a music festival hosted in Siksika Nation with the focus of bringing more diverse music programming to the community.
Since the festivals formation, the festival has grown into a weekend long attraction with performers and attendees travelling to the community from all over North America. The festival has expanded its programming, including elder mentoring, skateboarding, pow wow and dance demonstrations.
Another great feature of this fest, is the fact that it is community driven. They hiring local community members to work in key roles. The festival has a volunteer component offering mentorship with the communities’ youth. The festival continues to grow and establish itself as one of the premier summer events in its region and beyond and this year I believe is a perfect example of that.
CJWE had a chance to speak with found and organizer Carlin Black Rabbit and fellow organizer Mark about Moments Fest weekend:
