A former council member of Tsuut’ina Nation plead guilty to assault, after trying to hug and kiss a woman at a casino last year.
Emmett Crowchild, 55, was originally charged with sexual assault during the summer last year, and on Wednesday plead guilty to assault.
The courts were told on February 15th, 2025, Crowchild was waved over by a woman at the Grey Eagle Casino. Crowchild approached with open arms and attempted to kiss the woman, and was pushed back several times.
The woman texted Emmett about the incident, saying it had made her uncomfortable, and he apologized. At the time, he was a minor chief on the Tsuut’ina Nation Council, but lost his seat in a November election, two months after the police had brought charges against him.
Justice Ann Brown agreed with the Crown and defense’s proposal for nine months of probation, as well as counselling, which Crowchild has already started. After completing the probation period, he will not have a criminal record.
